Tell us a bit about yourself. What were some of the jobs you had before starting Rewind?

Before starting with Rewind, I held various sales positions with Halogen Software, and Play it Again Sports. I also had Recruitment roles with St Francis Xavier University, and Millennium 1 Solutions.

What made you gravitate to the world of sales, and how long have you been in this field of work?

I consider myself a social person, so I was originally drawn to sales because it gives me the opportunity to converse with different types of people on a daily basis. Providing solutions for a wide range of customers is extremely rewarding. I enjoy the fast-pace, competitive environment that sales is known for, and it drives me to be better every day – hence why I have been in and out of sales for almost eight years now.

Why do you feel sales are so important to any successful business? What specific role does it play in a business’s overall process?

More often than not, salespeople are the first point of contact for potential customers. At that point in time, your sales team is the face of the business. It’s important to have a strong sales team capable of listening to customers and building strong relationships. If you can create a positive experience out of the gate for your customers, that success will trickle down throughout the rest of the organization.

What do you feel is the most important step in closing any sale?

For me personally, the most important step in sales is asking the right questions. It’s my mission to make sure that every potential customer’s struggles disappear – and that their needs are met – with the implementation of our product.

Why do YOU feel backups are so crucial to an ecommerce business?

I don’t think there are many people in today’s society who would own a house or drive their car without the proper protection and insurance. The same principle applies to your online store. Would you risk your multi-million dollar business going down for several hours, or even days?  Or on a smaller scale, risk having your top selling product get lost/deleted? Ensuring that your cloud-based business is being backed up in real-time is crucial.

What’s your favourite part about what you (personally) do within Rewind?

My favourite part about selling here at Rewind is that I get to see each and every day how my efforts have grown the business and effected our bottom line. As a startup company, no win  – big or small – goes unnoticed.

Give us an example of the most gratifying experience you’ve had at Rewind, in terms of what we’ve been able to do/provide for a customer.

One of the most gratifying experiences I’ve had here at Rewind was when I dealt with a customer who was adamant that he did not need our backup service. He’d stated, “It’s in the cloud, why would I need a backup?”  

Ultimately, we gave this customer a two month free trial so he could see if Rewind would protect his business from any instances of data loss during that time. Unfortunately for the customer, he did wind up losing a handful of products to a misbehaving third party app that had read and write permissions to his shop.

Luckily, Rewind was installed and was able to restore that data in just a few short minutes. We now have a satisfied life-long customer.

Where do you see Rewind being in five years from now?

Five years from now, it would be extremely rewarding to see Rewind scaled across 10+ platforms, and well on its way to backing up the entire cloud environment. It’s our goal to make backups a “no brainer” for the whole world.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give to anyone new to the world of Sales?

Dive right in. Don’t hold back from making calls, or having those tough conversations. The quicker you can become accustomed to initiating contact and speaking with customers about your product/service, the better off you will be.

One of my distant – and I mean very distant – relatives is William Penn, the man featured on the front of Quaker Oats products. He’s also of the founding fathers of the English-North American colony that is now Pennsylvania.
